The Young Leader scheme in Crosby & District Scouts has been a fantastic success, with nearly every section now benefiting from the enthusiasm, skills, and energy of our Young Leaders. This initiative provides a great opportunity for young people aged 14-18 to take on leadership roles and develop a wide range of skills while supporting younger Scouts.
As part of the Young Leader programme, participants receive:
-
Comprehensive Training: Every half term, our Young Leaders attend training sessions that cover essential leadership skills, such as effective communication, planning activities, and working with younger children.
-
Dedicated Support: Each Young Leader is paired with a dedicated Leader who provides ongoing guidance and support, ensuring they feel confident in their role and are able to make a positive impact on the young people they work with.
-
Achievement of the Young Leader Belt: Young Leaders work through a series of missions and challenges that help them develop their skills in areas like teamwork, leadership, and outdoor activities. Upon completion, they are awarded the Young Leader Belt, marking their achievements.
The scheme not only helps young people develop leadership and life skills but also fosters a sense of responsibility, teamwork, and pride in supporting the Scout movement. It’s an incredibly rewarding experience for those involved and is a fantastic stepping stone for future roles within Scouting or other volunteer organisations.
