Scouting runs on amazing volunteers, and our Treasurer, Bill, is no exception! He’s recently been battling with our energy provider ⚡ to argue a refund for overestimated energy charges —securing a whopping refund for Crosby District Scouts this weekend! 💰🎉
There are many volunteering roles that help support Scouting, and the role of Treasurer is one of the most crucial. This is just one example of how a Treasurer ensures our finances are managed well, and every penny is spent wisely. Their support is absolutely essential to keep everything running smoothly.
After nearly 10 years in the role, Bill will be stepping down soon, and we’re on the lookout for someone to step into his shoes and take on this critical position. Could you be the next behind-the-scenes Scouting hero? 🦸
Crosby District Scouts is looking for a Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees. As an Appointed Trustee, you'll play a key role in ensuring that young people have access to transformative Scouting experiences that foster confidence, leadership, and essential life skills. Your work will directly shape the future of Scouting in our District and support our mission to provide incredible opportunities for our young members.
This home-based volunteer role offers you the chance to make a real impact. As a Trustee, you’ll help guide the strategic direction of Crosby District Scouts, ensuring the organisation operates sustainably, legally, and in line with our charitable purpose. Our Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and direction of the District, ensuring that our programme is delivered in a way that meets the needs of young people and the wider community.
The Board does not manage individual groups or sections; rather, it oversees the delivery of a clear strategy. The Board typically meets 3-4 times a year, and members bring a wide variety of expertise, from healthcare and conservation to education and business.
If you’re ready to contribute your skills to a purpose-driven cause, we’d love to have you join our team!
What Are We Looking For?
We’re seeking volunteers with experience in budgeting, financial record-keeping, and preparing annual reports and budgets. The ideal candidate will bring:
-
Analytical Thinking: The ability to interpret financial data and offer insights that help guide decisions.
-
Organisational Skills: Strong attention to detail, with the ability to handle multiple tasks, such as monitoring payments and preparing financial reports.
-
Digital Competency: Familiarity with financial management tools or a willingness to learn new systems to track budgets and process payments.
-
Reliability and Teamwork: Consistency and accountability are key to this role, as well as being a supportive team player.
-
Commitment to Our Values: A passion for supporting young people and an understanding of Scouting’s principles.
-
Problem-Solving: The ability to creatively address financial challenges like rising costs or fundraising gaps.
-
Adaptability: Flexibility to manage new opportunities, such as grants or additional programmes, as the group evolves.
While financial experience is important, enthusiasm for the role and a willingness to learn are just as valuable. Full training and support will be provided to help you succeed, and this role offers a meaningful opportunity to make a lasting difference in our community.
What Difference Will You Make?
As Treasurer, you’ll ensure our funds are managed with integrity and transparency, helping to keep our finances strong and focused on supporting young people. Your work will directly impact our ability to:

Provide life-changing adventures and experiences for young people.

Support our volunteers with the resources they need to succeed.
-
Ensure the long-term sustainability of Scouting in Crosby District.
This flexible role allows you to work from home, and you’ll be fully supported by the current Treasurer and the Board of Trustees throughout your transition. Here’s a taste of the tasks you’ll take on:

Transitioning group bank accounts to a new system with dual approvals.
-
Standardising financial processes across all sections.
