Congratulations to 4th Crosby (St William of York) Scout Group! 🎉
We are thrilled to announce that 4th Crosby (St William of York) Scout Group has been awarded The King’s Award for Voluntary Service for 2024 – the highest accolade a local voluntary group can receive in the UK, equivalent to an MBE.
This prestigious award recognises the outstanding contribution of the volunteer leaders and adults who work tirelessly within their local community, providing a diverse range of opportunities for young people to develop skills for life while enjoying the adventure of Scouting.
4th Crosby is one of 281 local charities, social enterprises, and voluntary groups to receive the award this year. Their exceptional work, alongside that of other volunteer groups across the UK, highlights the invaluable contributions volunteers make to their communities, working to improve the lives of those around them.
The King’s Award for Voluntary Service was created in 2002 to celebrate Her Majesty the late Queen’s Golden Jubilee and continues to be awarded following the accession of His Majesty The King. This year marks the second presentation of the award under His Majesty’s reign.
Representatives from 4th Crosby will receive the award crystal and certificate from Mr Mark Blundell, Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside, next year. Additionally, two volunteers will be invited to attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace in May and June 2025, alongside other recipients of this year’s award.
Catherine Ashcroft, Group Scout Leader, said:
“Receiving this award is tinged with great sadness at the unexpected death of our Parish Priest, Fr Dunstan Harrington on Remembrance Sunday. Fr Dunstan was very proud of our young people and the work that our volunteers undertake in our parish, he would have been delighted to hear this news and his support has been invaluable to us over the years. May he rest in peace.
It is truly an incredible honour to be recognised in this way for the efforts made by our team in our community. We have the most amazing group of adults that you could ever dream of working with. They are committed to delivering the best opportunities to challenge our young people, teaching them skills that will raise aspirations and prepare them for the future. They consistently go above and beyond and are a credit to our organisation. This award will mean so much to our young people, adult volunteers, trustees and parents, we are delighted to receive it. Thank you to everyone who contributes to make the 4th such a special place to volunteer, we hope to continue to make a difference in our community.”
Well done and thank you to all of the volunteers involved. Your dedication to your community is truly deserving of this recognition. We are so proud of all you do and deeply appreciative of Fr Dunstan’s legacy and the impact he had on the group over the years.
